According to comScore, an industry leader in measuring the digital world the following was reported,

  • A total of 234 million people in the U.S. ages 13 and older used mobile devices in Q4 2009
  • 89% of US workers have a cell phone
  • 66% of Americans aged 30-49 use text messaging

Text Messaging/Phone Statistics

In 2009, The Wireless Association (CTIA) and The Nielsen Company documented the following:

  • 95% of all text messages, were read
  • 5 billion text messages were generated each month in the U.S.
  • 257 million U.S. consumers owned portable devices
  • 62% of the revenue from a single sale was attributed to SMS-based coupons

Email/Internet Statistics

In 2009 the Pew Internet and American Life Project and the Digital Future Report at the USC Annenberg School, documented the following:

  • 80% of Americans use the Internet
  • 61% of U.S. households have at least one computer
  • 65% of all Internet users buy online
  • 97% of Internet users use email. Of those, 57% do this as part of a typical day
  • 51% of Internet users reported that they are members of an online community
  • 247 billion emails were sent each day

NEW YORK – Two-thirds of the world’s population has a mobile phone subscription, 4 billion people. Mobile will create the ability to individually target more people than any other channel, according to Google.
